יהודים למען היהדות: ״הפרק האסור" – מפריכים את תיאוריית הקונספירציה

יש מיסיונרים שטוענים שיש קונספירציה להסתיר מכם את האמת.

הם מספרים על "פרק בתנ"ך שהיו נקרא בעבר בבתי כנסת, אבל רבנים הסירו אותו מסדר ההפטרות 'כדי למנוע בלבול'... והיום הפרק הזה נחשב 'פרק אסור' ומוחבא מיהודים".

הפרק הזה, שלטענת המיסיונרים הרבנים לא רוצים שתקראו, הוא ישעיהו נ"ג, הנוצרים מאמינים שהפרק מתאר את מותו של המשיח (ישו) בעבור חטאינו.

טענה שקרית זו[1] שניתן להפריך בקלות, היא תרגיל שנועד לגרום לאנשים לראות את "הפרק האסור" מחוץ להקשר שלו, וככה לקבל את ישו. לעומת זאת, כשקוראים את הפרק בהקשר הנכון, ישעיהו נ"ג לא מדבר על אף אחד שמת "בעבור" חטאינו. ישעיהו מתאר את הסבל של עם ישראל מהאלימות של אומות העולם כלפיהם.

ואם כבר מדברים על קונספירציות, המיסיונרים מטעים אנשים בכוונה או שהם פשוט בורים בכל מה שקשור להיסטוריה של הקריאה מספרי הנביאים בבתי הכנסת.

ישנן בעיות רבות בתיאוריית הקונספירציה שלהם:

1. אין איסור הלכתי לקרוא חלק כלשהו בתנ"ך. להיפך, התנ"ך, כולל ספר ישעיהו, זמין לכל מי שרוצה לקרוא בו.
2. קריאת ההפטרה מתוך הנביאים התחילה במאה השנייה לפני הספירה, כשהמלך אנטיוכוס אסר על היהודים לקרוא מחמשת חומשי התורה. מכיוון שאנטיוכוס לא אסר לקרוא מהנביאים, חכמים החליטו לקרוא בבית הכנסת קטעים נבחרים מתוך הנביאים שבהם רעיון דומה לפרשת השבוע שנאסרה. ככה לא נשכחה פרשת השבוע.

6. לבסוף, חוקרים מצביעים על אחת ממגילות ים המלח שמכונה 4Q176. מגילה זו נקראת גם 4QT תנחומי, והיא מכילה רשימה של פרקים דומים מספר ישעיהו שמכילים מסר של נחמה על חורבן בית המקדש. מעניין לראות שבמגילה זו לא מופיע פרק נ"ג, ומכיוון שמגילות ים המלח קדומות מהיהדות הרבנית, בוודאי אי אפשר לטעון שיש כאן קונספירציה של רבנים להסתיר את ישעיהו פרק נ"ג מהציבור.

אם כבר יש קונספירציה, היא של המיסיונרים. הם מסתירים את הפירוש הפשוט והברור של ישעיהו נ"ג על ידי קריאה מחוץ להקשר ותרגום שגוי של מילים חשובות, כך שיהיה אפשר לדחוף את ישו לתוך הטקסט.

במקומות רבים בתנ"ך מתייחסים לעם ישראל כולו בלשון יחיד. לדוגמה: "וַיֵּאָסְפוּ כָל הָעָם כְּאִישׁ אֶחָד" (נחמיה ח, א). דוגמה מצוינת נוספת היא הפסוק "אַתֶּם עֵדַי נְאֻם יְהוָה וְעַבְדִּי אֲשֶׁר בָּחָרְתִּי" (ישעיהו מ"ג, י), בפסוק זה הנביא מתייחס לעם ישראל בהתחלה ברבים ומיד עובר ללשון יחיד.

אז על מי ועל מה מדבר ישעיהו נ"ג?

בפרק נ"ב, מתאר הנביא ישעיהו את התגובה של אומות העולם כשהם רואים[2] את ביאת המשיח ואת הגאולה העתידית של עם ישראל.

מכיוון שאומות העולם בזו לעם ישראל וחשבו שאלוהים נטש אותו ולכן הוא סובל, הם יוכו בתדהמה[3] כשהם יראו את הגאולה המפתיעה והמפוארת של עם ישראל.

בשלב הזה, אומות העולם ומנהיגיהן יתפלאו, הם יבינו שעם ישראל לא סבל כי אלוהים נטש אותו, כפי שחשבו בטעות, אלא כי הם עצמם התעמרו בעם ישראל מעבר למה שהיה אולי מגיע לו[4].

זה פירוש הפסוק "וְהוּא [ישראל] מְחֹלָל מִפְּשָׁעֵנוּ [האומות] מְדֻכָּא מֵעֲו‍ֹנֹתֵינוּ" (ישעיהו נ"ג, ה). עם ישראל סבל מהרדיפה של אומות העולם.

בתרגום הפרק לאנגלית, מיסיונרים מתרגמים בטעות את התחילית 'מ' כאילו משמעותו 'בעבור', והמניפולציה הזו של הטקסט יוצרת הבנה מוטעית כאילו "העבד" יסבול בגלל, או בעבור, החטאים של העם היהודי.

הרעיון שעם ישראל סבל בגלל הפשעים של אומות העולם מופיע גם בפסוק "מִפֶּשַׁע עַמִּי נֶגַע לָמוֹ" (נ"ג, ח). פירוש המילה התנ"כית "למו" הוא "להם", כמו בפסוק "וְחֹ֣ק נָֽתַן־לָֽמוֹ" (תהילים צ"ט, ז). מיסיונרים מתרגמים המילה כאילו היא בלשון יחיד ופירושה "לו" כך שנראה כאילו הפסוק מדבר על אדם אחד, כלומר ישו.

בנוסף, נוצרים מיסיונרים רואים בטעות במשיח גואל רוחני מחטאים ולא מי שיביא גאולה ממשית מגלות וממלחמות.

על אף שכל הפרשנים היהודים מאמינים שהעבד הנבזה מישעיהו נ"ג הוא פשוט עם ישראל, ברמה האלגורית, יש כמה פרשנים שמזהים את העבד כמשיח. פרשנות זו נובעת מהתפיסה שהמשיח הוא אחד מעם ישראל, וככזה הוא יכול לשאת באחריות להקל בעונש בשם העם כולו[5].

דוגמה לתפיסה זו מופיעה בחומש במדבר, פרק ד, פס' י"ט-כ, שם בני קהת לקחו על עצמם את האחריות לשאת את ארון הברית, ובכך סכנו את עצמם, בשם שאר עם ישראל וכדי שאף אחד אחר לא ימות. למרבה הפלא, רגע לפני פרק נ"ג, עם ישראל מכונה "נֹשְׂאֵ֖י כְּלֵ֥י ה' " (ישעיהו נ"ב, י"א).

בניגוד לאמונה הנוצרית, אף פרשן יהודי לא חושב שהמשיח ימות עבור החטאים שלנו או שעלינו להאמין בו או אפילו להכיר אותו, כדי לזכות בגאולה. אפילו בלי שנדע על זה, הייסורים של המשיח יחליפו חלק מהייסורים של עם ישראל.

חשוב גם להבין שבהשפעת דתות פגאניות, הנצרות הקדומה תפסה את המשיח כאל. האמונות הנוצריות שהמשיח מת בעבור חטאי האדם ושהוא אלוהי, שתיהן זרות ליהדות ולא מבוססות על התנ"ך כלל.

הצגתי כאן סקירה קצרה של ישעיהו נ"ג ושל האופן שבו מיסיונרים מעוותים את הטקסט כך שיהיה אפשר להתאים אליו את ישו. סקירה זו גם מדגימה את הסכנה שבקריאת קטע או פרק מחוץ להקשר.

Jews For Judaism: Debunking The Isaiah 53 "Forbidden Chapter” Conspiracy

Some Christian missionaries claim, especially in online videos, that there is a conspiracy to hide the truth from you.

They assert, “There is a chapter in the Tanach [Jewish scriptures] that used to be read in synagogues, but later, the rabbis decided to take it out of the Haftarah [weekly prophetic readings] ‘to avoid confusion’... and today it is considered ‘The Forbidden Chapter,’ hidden from Jews.”

The chapter that missionaries say the rabbis do not want you to read is Isaiah 53. Most Christians believe this chapter describes the messiah [Jesus] dying for our sins.

This easily debunked claim¹ is a ploy to get people to read “The Forbidden Chapter” out of context and consequently accept Jesus. However, when read in context, Isaiah 53 is not speaking about anyone dying “for” our sins. Isaiah describes the Jewish people who suffered “from” the violence perpetrated against them by the nations of the world.

Furthermore, concerning a conspiracy, the missionaries are either intentionally misleading people or are ignorant of the history of the public reading of the prophets.

There are numerous problems with their conspiracy theory:

1) No rabbinic edicts exist that prohibit Jews from reading any portion of the Jewish Bible. On the contrary, the Jewish Bible, including the Book of Isaiah, is accessible to anyone who wants to read it.

2)The weekly prophetic readings, as we know them, were instituted in the second century BCE when the Greek King Antiochus forbade Jews from reading from the Torah [Five Books of Moses]. Since Antiochus did not forbid reading from the Prophets, the sages instituted the weekly public reading of a portion of the Prophets that shared a theme corresponding to the outlawed Torah reading. In this way, the weekly Torah portion would not be forgotten.

3) To accomplish their immediate goal, the sages used only a small portion of the Books of the Prophets. The omission of the remainder of the prophetic writings was not intended to hide their content; to the contrary, they were available to anyone who wanted to read them.

4) If the rabbis had conspired to hide prophetic passages that Christians claim to refer to Jesus, they would not have included Isaiah 9:6 as part of the reading for Yitro, as is the custom of many Jewish congregations. Although Christians misinterpret this passage to prove that Jesus is divine, our sages knew that when read in context, Jews would understand that Isaiah 9:6 refers to the righteous King Hezekiah. Similarly, the sages did not “hide” other Torah passages that Christians claim refer to Jesus. As mentioned above, specific portions of the Books of the Prophets were chosen to correspond to the yearly Torah reading cycle. These portions were divided into different categories: the Torah portion, holidays, the three weeks leading to the commemoration of the destruction of the Temple on the Ninth of Av, and the subsequent seven weeks of consolation and comfort. Although during these weeks of comfort select portions of consolation are read from Isaiah, the message in Isaiah 53, and most of the Book of Isaiah, were not included because they do not specifically address consolation.

5) Lastly, some scholars point out that the Dead Sea Scrolls contain a parchment known as 4Q176. This parchment is also referred to as 4QTanhumi [Tanhumi means comfort] and lists similar chapters from Isaiah read as consolation and comfort for the destruction of the Temple. Interestingly, this parchment does not include Isaiah 53. Since the Dead Sea Scrolls are associated with non-rabbinic sects, this refutes the claim that there was a “rabbinical conspiracy” to hide Isaiah 53 from the public.

If there is a conspiracy, it is by missionaries. They hide the plain and obvious meaning of Isaiah 53 by reading it out of context and mistranslating crucial words to fit Jesus into the chapter.

As mentioned above, to understand the true meaning of Isaiah 53 it must be read in context.

Although Isaiah 53 speaks about a “suffering servant of God,” anyone who reads Isaiah from the beginning knows that “Israel” is repeatedly referred to as God’s servant. Two examples: “Israel is my Servant” (Isaiah 41:8), and “For you, Israel, are My servant” (Isaiah 44:21).

It is common in Tanach [Jewish Scriptures] to refer to the nation of Israel as a single individual. For example, it says, “And the people gathered as one man” (Nehemiah 8:1). In a revealing passage, “You are My witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen” (Isaiah 43:10), the subject Israel is referred to first in the plural and then in the singular.

So, about whom and what is Isaiah 53 speaking?

Starting in Isaiah 52, the prophet describes the reaction of the nations of the world when they witness² the future and ultimate messianic redemption of the Jewish people.

Since the nations viewed the Jewish people scornfully and considered them rejected by God and deserving of Divine suffering, they will be shocked and dumbfounded³ when they witness God’s unexpected and glorious redemption of the Jewish people.

At this point, the nations and their leaders will be left wondering and conclude that the Jewish people did not suffer because God rejected them, as the nations mistakenly thought; instead, it was because they persecuted the Jewish people beyond what they may have deserved.⁴

This is the meaning of the passage, “he [Israel] was wounded from our [the nations] transgression and bruised from our [the nations’] iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5). Israel suffered from the mistreatment of the nations.

In English translations of this chapter, Christians mistranslate the prefix [מ] as “for” rather than “from.” This manipulates the text to sound as if the servant will suffer for the sins of the Jewish people. Fortunately, some Christian translations, such as the New Oxford Annotated Bible, have acknowledged and corrected this mistake.

The idea that the Jewish people suffered from or because of the nations’ misdeeds is substantiated in the passage “for the transgress of my [the nation’s] people they [למו–lamow, i.e., the Jewish people] were stricken” (Isaiah 53:8). The word [למו] is biblical Hebrew and is a plural word as in, “a statute that He gave [למו] to them” (Psalms 99:7). Missionaries incorrectly translated this word as “he” in Isaiah 53:7 to make it sound as if “he was stricken” and therefore speaking about a single individual, i.e., Jesus.

Furthermore, Christian missionaries incorrectly change the role of messiah from a human physical redeemer from oppression and exile to a spiritual [divine] savior from sin.

Although all Jewish commentators believe that the straightforward identification of the servant in Isaiah 53 is Israel, some, on an allegorical level, identify the servant as the messiah. They do so because, as a member of the Jewish people, the messiah can bear the responsibility to alleviate a portion of the punishment on behalf of the rest of the nation.⁵ A similar example of this concept is found in Numbers 4:19-20, where the children of Kehat bear the responsibility of carrying the Ark, at considerable risk to themselves, on behalf of the rest of the nation, so no one else would die. Amazingly, just before Isaiah 53, Israel is referred to as “bearers of the vessels of the Lord” (Isaiah 52:11).

In contrast to Christian belief, no Jewish commentary claims that the messiah will die for our sins or that we need to believe in, or even know about him, to benefit from his suffering. Even without our knowledge, the messiah’s, suffering, as well as the suffering of other righteous Jews, can alleviate some portion of the nation’s suffering.

It is also noteworthy that under the influence of paganism, the early Christians also transformed the messiah into a deity. The Christian beliefs that the messiah dies for our sins and is divine are foreign to Judaism and not based on the Tanach.

I have attempted to present a brief overview of Isaiah 53 and how missionaries distort the original text to fit Jesus into the picture. This overview also demonstrates the danger of reading passages or a chapter out of context.⁶

As King Solomon wisely stated, “The first to present his argument sounds correct, until someone cross-examines him” (Proverbs 18:17).

1 Although missionaries attribute this claim to an obscure “17th-century Jewish historian, Raphael Levy” they fail to produce evidence of his statement. Interestingly, one Jew matching Levy’s description refused to accept Christianity and died a martyr.

2 “God will lay bare His holy arm in the sight of all the nations” (Isaiah 52:10). God’s “arm” is associated with His redemption, as in, “I will redeem you with an outstretched arm” (Exodus 6:6).

This event is especially relevant considering how nearly every nation of the United Nations unjustly and disproportionality condemns Israel at every opportunity.

5 Alleviating communal punishment is not the same as removing someone’s sin, which remains the individual’s responsibility.

6 To prove this point, we could argue that there is a forbidden passage in the New Testament that Christians don’t want anyone to read, and point to Luke 14:26 where Jesus said, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children…, he cannot be my disciple.” Missionaries would respond that this is not a forbidden passage but needs to be read in context and in the original language to be understood correctly. Therefore, we can answer that the same is true of Isaiah 53.

Firekeepers Fellowship is a "messianic congregation" with Native American flavor and is headed by the Riverwinds.

The Riverwinds appear to claim to Jews that they represent Native Americans. They appear to claim to Christians that they have a special relationship with the Israeli government. They gain money and prestige. They are deeply involved with the messianic Jews in Israel and in America. This video shows them speaking at a messianic Shavuot conference.

Here at Israel Christian Watch, we suspect that they are "messianic missionaries." Joseph Riverwind claims he is from the Anusim (Jews who were forced to abandon Judaism against their will) "proven" by a DNA test. Of course, DNA is no proof of anything other than a genetic connection. To become Jewish Riverwind would have to convert. And to convert one must stop believing in false gods, not to mention other beliefs counter to Torah, such as false messiahs. The Riverwinds sure get around. Here they are putting on a show at The First Station, Jerusalem.

The Riverwinds participated in the first hour of the Pentecost 23 broadcast with Chaim Malespin and Carolyn Hyde.

They attended Malespin's Ambassador Academy, whose students were given certificates by Rabbi Yehuda Glick at a ceremony at the Knesset (photo found on their fundraising page). They now claim the Israeli government appointed them Ambassadors of G-d. Here is a fundraising page they opened for their recent trip to Israel where they claim the they were "requested to come by the government."

Chief Joseph Riverwind, a leader of the Arawak Taino Nation and peace chief between tribal nations, and his wife, Dr. Laralyn Riverwind, who is ambassador-at-large for the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee, have been building bridges with Israel and the Jewish people for decades. After years of bringing delegations of Native Americans to Israel, the Riverwinds have expressed their desire to open a Native American embassy in Jerusalem.

The Riverwinds told The Media Line that they are inspired by the story of the Jewish people and Israel—the story of an exiled people who returned and settled in their native homeland. “The story of the Jewish people, the indigenous people of Judea, brings us hope. For a tribal nation that has been able to return home, to their sacred sites, their culture, their tradition, their language,” said Riverwind. (cont.)

We should all know by now that any time a Christian declares love for Israel, it is always due to ulterior motives. Whether it is simply to fulfill their distorted understanding of Biblical prophecies, or the more aggressive objectives of missionizing and/or laying claim to the Jewish homeland as their own.

Even the moderate Orthodox Union [OU] years ago coined the expression "respect, but suspect," to represent its views on Christian supporters of Israel.

Claims of a potential "lost tribe" descendance begins at time marker 3:14 in the video embedded above. The coincidences mentioned could easily be explained by the interactions between the Jews on Columbus's ships and the inhabitants they encountered in the Americas. Why did The Media Line fail to mention this alternative theory?

And regardless of their connections to Israel, genetic, cultural, or otherwise, conversion is still necessary to join the People of Israel. And prospective converts are disqualified when they refuse to reject their false deities and other false beliefs.  I only bother to write in order to remind Jews who have been blind by Christian "love" of this Torah fact.

By their own admission, like any Christian, their understanding of "God" is interchangeable with their false deity/messiah:

Don’t be surprised when you hear them refer to God by His ancient Biblical names or call the Messiah by His Hebrew given name, Yeshua our Great Chief CornerStone.

So who are they singing about in the video at time marker 7:25, when they say Adonai and Elohim?

Their false deity/messiah.

This is not a new strategy. The Hayovel volunteers who have been trained to be very careful with their words have been doing the same thing in the the vineyards in Samaria.

These people are sןmply being open and straightforward about it.

The "embassy" or "emissary" strategy is also not a new one. We have already seen this with the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem [ICEJ] and Bishop Glenn Plummer.

The Riverwinds have already visited Israel several times, including having been hosted by known messianic singer Joshua Aaron.

So, what are the objectives of the Riverwinds? To missionize in the Land of Israel? To reside (settle) in the Land of Israel? Or simply to influence policies pertaining to Christians?

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The meeting Byron Stinson refers to is the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast hosted by MK Matan Kahana.

He refers to the anti-missionary demonstrators as "antichrist Jews" and ends with "Just a little longer and He who is the hope will reveal the enemy and come rescue the bride."

Of course, Stinson's Christian understanding of the Prophets is distorted at best. If he is referring to Christian prophets, then of course, their words are nothing more than fantasy.

It seems that to them "the enemy" is the Jews who refuse to bow to Yeshu and "the bride" is the Christians.

By definition, any and all kosher Jews rejects the Christian perspective on the messiah. By definition, any and all kosher Jews reject belief in the Christian false deity-messiah.

And so, I guess quite a few of us are "the enemy."

I wonder how he sees his religious Jewish friends, assisting him in the Knesset, with The Hunt for the Red Heifer, and in Tel-Shilo, who also refuse to bow down to their false deity-messiah?

In you recall, Byron Stinson is the person responsible for securing, shipping, and taking care of the red heifers that are supposed to purify Am Yisrael of its impurity.

How much more twisted can things get?

Over the years, more and more Christians have been attempting to Hebraize their terminology, in order to connect and to appeal to Jews. Yeshua, struck through here in order to disrespect the avodah zarah (foreign worship) and false deity-messiah, is one such example. Whereas Yeshu is the Hebrew acronym for "may his name and memory be blotted out."

So, what do you think of this interaction between this apparently native Israeli, Christian missionary and ultra-orthodox men? This took place on the day of the protest against the forbidden, Christian ceremony near the Temple Mount, which was to initiate a world-wide missionary campaign, beginning with the Jewish People.

Well done to the hundreds who came to protest in front of the Society for the Development of the Jewish Quarter, which allowed Christian missionaries to hold Christian worship and a ceremony related to the preparation for a missionary operation among the residents of Israel, a dignified and proper protest against the government company that made this possible and against the missionaries themselves.
